There is lots of activity on the shore with deliveries to the shops and restaurants. The buildings are a patchwork of colourful, reds, yellows, and whites and stretch from the steep banks of the River Douro to the top of the hill.

The Portuguese city of Oporto, situated in a great gorge on the banks of the River Douro, is best known for its greatest export - Port wine.

The old Ribeira riverside district of narrow streets was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
