The Seven Sisters
on the Sussex Downs were
formed by glacier melt
water at the end of the last Ice Age. This melt water carved steep sided valleys
that have been truncated by sea erosion to form the cliffs we see here today.
These seven undulating cliffs are continuously changing as they are constantly
beaten by the sea and weather.
The detail in this image is stunning, from the
sea weed on the rocks through the chalk line to the sands and onto the cliffs beyond
where the layers in the chalk are clearly visible.
