Tranquil Collection » Tarn Hows

Panorama photography landscape picture of Tarn Hows in the Lake District. The water in the foreground of this picture reflects the deeply forested landscape beyond, the islands with their vegetation of heather, silver birches and other shrubs.
Detail of a tree reflected in the still waters.

The glass like waters of Tarn Hows create a mirror image reflection of the trees.

At the beginning of the 20th century the landowner dammed a stream at the southern end of an existing pond, Low Tarn, to provide a source of water for the saw mill in Yewdale. This dam caused the valley to flood thus creating the stunning Tarn Hows we see today.
